My name is Lauren Carter, I am a pre-accredited member of the IACP and I am glad you are here. I know how hard it can be to reach out for support, so well done on taking the first step. When difficulties arise in life, they can often be accompanied by a lot of feelings that can be hard to make sense of. I offer a safe, confidential space to compassionately explore what is going on for you. I have experience with online therapy, which has been beneficial for anyone that struggles to find the time to travel for the help they may want or need. Using a humanistic approach, I focus on building a therapeutic relationship with you.
By building on the foundation of the therapeutic relationship, together we would explore; any feelings of anxiety or depression you may be experiencing; feelings of grief whether through bereavement or loss outside of death; or any other difficulties that may be there for you.
We all have different experiences in life and there is nothing wrong with needing a helping hand to provide support. If you think therapy can be a support for you, please feel free to get in touch and we can talk through what may be helpful for you.
I have been working as a counsellor/psychotherapist for almost 3 years, including online work. I have been working in the hospitality sector for most my working life, while always having a passion for the work done by those in the mental health world. Being exposed to so many people throughout my days allowed me to see the struggles people were going through on a daily basis, with little resources available to support them. This inspired me to train in the area and get the tools that could help provide that support.
I work with adults experiencing challenges such as Depression, Anxiety, Loneliness, Stress, Anger, Loss, Bereavement, Abuse, Relationship problems, Self-Esteem, effects of COVID, and other issues. My aim is to create a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where you can safely explore the challenges you are facing.
Resources should be readily available to anyone or everyone who needs them and my aim is to work with you to help navigate your feelings, thoughts, or struggles that you may be experiencing. This can lead to a deeper understanding about any patterns of behavior that might be causing problems in your life.
Using a humanistic approach, I focus on building relationships with the people that come to see me, and using that foundation to work through anxiety, depression, grief or other issues that may be present for them. I have experience with online therapy, which has been a major help for those that don't have the time/space to travel for the help they want/need. I am continuously on the lookout for various courses that can continue to grow my knowledge and understanding of the different approaches that are offered within the therapeutic space. However, therapy is not a “one-size-fits-all”, so I use a variety of techniques and theories in the therapeutic space in order to find what works for each individual.
I completed a BSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy with PCI College. This course gave me a foundation in this work and introduced me to the various theories that are involved in counselling. While the theories are a large part of this work, working with clients provided the biggest learning opportunity as it allowed me to see how different people are and where certain things help some people, it doesn't necessarily work for everyone.
I continue to learn from different continuing professional development courses that provide an introduction to different theories.
